After an earlier CNN report that Vick had been offered a recommended sentence of 18-36 months, CNN is now relaying that the Virginian-Pilot is reporting that Vick has accepted a plea deal, only to the federal charges.
Even if he only receives 18 months, he still faces state charges that could put him in prison and out of football for anywhere from 2 to 42 years. When Vick officially enters the plea next Monday, his football career simultaneously ends.
ESPN's story includes a statement from Billy Martin.

My limited knowledge of the federal system leads me to believe that Vick is being prosecuted and will be sentenced as the ringleader, meaning I would be shocked if he receives anything less than an 18 month sentence. Interestingly, the count he is pleading to only deals with "illegal activities" and does not mention dogfighting or gambling. However, I'm sure the statement of facts to which he pleads guilty to will have at least some allusion to gambling, which will render Vick's NFL career totally over. Not to mention that our ECB source Gerald Poindexter is going to go balls-to-the-wall with state charges which would likely result in an additional plea and additional consecutive state time. I would say the Vick story is a tragedy, but it's really not. And I really, really hope that your prediction that a Vick plea would divide this country along racial lines does not come to fruition.
I'm somewhat certain that the NFL's lifetime ban for gambling does not apply to in-house gambling, like poker or spades. Corey Fuller was arrested for running a poker game in his house, one in which he took a rake to pay for security, and he received no ban.
No, but this is more like orchestrating a gambling ring when people would come to your house from out-of-state for the purpose of gambling. All sources say Corey Fuller was essentially playing cards with buddies. Wouldn't it have been a little different if Corey Fuller was organizing a high-stakes poker game out of his basement that people traveled from various states to take part in?
And I think that the gambling is just one facet of Vick's behavior that is so unbecoming of an NFL player that he'll get the lifetime ban. Isn't it amazing how we used to think Marcus was the derelict Vick brother?
Michael Vick gets sent to jail for torturing dogs, but Matt Millen, who for years has been torturing fans, real human beings, gets off scot-free.
Where is the justice!?
But Millen never directly killed any fans. They might have driven themselves into telephone poles after games, but Millen wasn't driving.
I think Goodell is going to suspend him pending his sentencing, and then suspend him for his prison term, and then if/when he gets state time, ban him for life.
I'm not going to pretend I have a complete grasp of Lions fandom, but I have the definite impression that no one is being tortured by Matt Millen. The Lions are the same joke here that they are everywhere else.
Detroit suburbs are bandwagon towns. No one will take it that seriously until there is anything on the line.
Not that anyone here cares, but I just feel like making some more Michigan talk on this East Coast blog.
