Maryland Blows 21-Point Lead at Wake

[Sigh]. I'd love to complain about the Wake goal line fumble that the Terps recovered that the officials originally didn't call anything, then called a touchdown after conferring. Seriously though, when you allow an 101-yard interception return while up 21 late in the game, you really can't waste much time blaming the refs.

Winning on the road in any conference is tough. It would have been really nice to hold on to this one (and bury Wake with a second conference loss).

www.fireralphfriedgen.com anyone?

No, we lost in overtime to the defending ACC Champion. That's slightly different than shitting the bed against Appalachian State and Oregon.

Wait, seriously, you think Friedgen is more deserving of keeping his job than Carr?

If the answer is yes, is the reason because expectations are lower so it's okay to live with mediocrity?

Yes and yes. Three 10-win seasons, a 9-win season, and 3 bowl wins is a big improvement over winning 5 games every year.

I completely agree with J-Red. College isn't like the pros. In the NFL, the expectation for every team is to win the Super Bowl. After a few rebuilding years, there is no reason why a good coach and GM shouldn't be able to turn around any team.

In college, recruiting plays a huge part. The best coach in the world isn't going to win a National Championship at Florida International. The worst coach in the world could luck into a bowl game at Michigan just based on having more talent than most teams (well, OK, maybe Art Shell would go 5-6).

I have my beefs with Friedgen (some of his recruiting and play calling has been questionable), but without a doubt he's the best thing to happen to Maryland football since Boomer.

I have a serious problem with Fridge's recruiting though. He won with Vandy's players by and large. If he is an offensive mastermind with a 600-page playbook, why has he been unable to find a QB who can effectively master it? He's been hurt badly also by the loss of his assistants Taaffe and Blackney. Most of all, he needs to give up the dual offensive coordinator/head coach thing.

By playbook do you mean stomach?
