Redskins Lose Out Again

ESPN is reporting that Spagnuolo will be staying in NY with a big raise. So what's Danny gonna do now? I'm just waiting for the announcement that he's chosen himself as coach.

How embarrassing is that for Snyder? He's had 2 assistant coaches turn him down to keep their assistant coach position. When was the last time an NFL assistant turned down a promotion? I can't remember another time.

Snyder will bail himself out by firing the assistants he just hired and then offering Cowher a $15 million deal.

It's been so long since I've had so many happy tears in such a short period of time....and they're all Giants related somehow.

I think Russ Grimm might have to join the conversation just so Snyder can save some face. Mooch won't fly with the current team.

How do you go from Gibbs/Hard-ass Gregg Williams/Al Saunders to:

Mooch the Motivator/GW's former bitch/QBs coach who worked under the master QB developer.

Yeah, way to build on the 10-6 season Skins!

I really don't think there's any way the Skins can land an established coach now, since Danny already hired both coordinators. He's going to have to find someone that's desperate for a shot as a head coach. And that means no Cowher, Parcells, Grimm, Schottenheimer, Mooch, etc.

Not that Spagnuolo necessarily would have been great, but once you've put all your eggs in his basket, this really sucks.

Awwww.... poor 'Skins fans! Rickey gets to keep spags!

I won't deny the embarrassment factor in this whole coaching fiasco for Snyder. Hell, I won't deny the embarrassment factor in this whole ownership fiasco.

But as far as the actual result, here, is Spagnuolo a proven commodity for head coach? Must we list ALL the successful coordinators who have failed as head coaches?

Frankly, I don't see how anyone could be successful in the situation Snyder has set up. Fassell is fine with me at this point. He doesn't excite me, but I see no reason to be sitting here saying: "Gee! I sure wish we had Spags."

J-Red said...

Yeah, but who is left Ben? Russell made a great point about Snyder's supreme fuck-up in installing the coordinators first. He almost HAS to hire Fassel now if Fassel really recommended Zorn. Given that Mora, Jr., was "signed" to be the coach of the Seahawks in 2009, that's literally THE ONLY OPTION. What else can you do? Dust off Dave Campo?

They're royally screwed now. They might have to look at Doug Williams at Grambling, and that's a prestige job. Plus, there's just something about Doug Williams and his history that he won't appreciate having The Man pick his coordinators for him.

Other than Fassel, I really can't see another option. Mooch isn't stupid enough.

Not to belabor the point, but my point is that it doesn't matter who is hired, they are all doomed to failure because of Snyder and how he runs the franchise. Fassel is as good as Spags, in my opinion. If you're not going to let the coach pick the coordinators, no one can succeed.

What about elevating Zorn himself?

4-12 or 6-10, what's the difference? The draft pick, I guess.

Between the Giants win and the Skins futility in the searching coach, I think I've totally avoided the normal post-Super Bowl depression.

this is the direct result of Snyder being an idiot. I've got some choices for the Skins on my site, come holla' at me.
